  16. <p>Splitting up a marriage made in Camelot can be a royal headache
  17. </p>
  18. <p>     Breaking up is hard to do--especially for a prince and
  19. princess. This schism even warranted a statement from the floor
  20. of the House of Commons by the Prime Minister, who formally set
  21. some of the terms for what is, practically, the end of the
  22. 11-year marriage of Charles and Diana, the Prince and Princess
  23. of Wales. Reading from a Buckingham Palace statement to a hushed
  24. chamber, John Major explained that the couple would not divorce
  25. but would lead separate lives, carrying out their royal duties
  26. on independent schedules and getting together only for the most
  27. important public occasions. They will share in the upbringing
  28. of their children, Princes William, 10, and Henry, 8.

  30. <p>     The separation is not expected to alter the constitutional
  31. status of the royal couple: Charles remains next in line for the
  32. throne. Diana can still expect to become Queen, said Major,
  33. drawing murmurs of confusion from the House. Perhaps the
  34. coronation could be shown on split screen.
